Spillway Scramble Cross-Country Mountain Bike Race

On September 18, 2010, NOMAMBO will host the Spillway Scramble Cross-Country Mountain Bike Race, in connection with the Second Annual Dan Dickerson Benefit at the Spillway in support of Dan Dickerson. Dan Dickerson is the founder of NOMAMBO and the Spillway MTB trial. He, along with a hand full of others got the corp of engineers involved and built the trail system at the Spillway in March of 2003.

In February of 2009, Dan had a serious accident while skiing in Colorado with his two son. Dan skied into a tree and broke two vertebrae and suffered spinal cord damage. Dan is currently working on his rehabilitation and has made wonderful progress, yet he still remains confined to a wheel chair as a paraplegic. Our organization is raising money through pledges from family and friends, selling tickets to the Scramble & Benefit event, bike raffles, and a variety of other donations in support of this cause.

The Spillway Scramble Cross-Country Race will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Spillway trailhead located in Norco, LA. The award ceremony will be held directly after the Scramble at the 2nd Annual Dan Dickerson Benefit. Racers are invited to enjoy free food, drinks, raffles, and live entertainment at the post race Benefit. NOMAMBO will donate $10.00 from every pre-race entry registration and $20 from every race entry collected the morning of the event to the W. D. Dickerson Support Fund. Non-racing spectators will require additional entry to attend the benefit in support of Dan. All additional entries collected will be directly donated to the Dickerson Support Fund. Pre-Registration is available on Active .com for $30.  A one Day Off-Road License is required for non USA Cycling Members, license are available for $5.00. The registration price will rise to $40 the day of the event.

NOMAMBO will also offer a variety of raffle prizes including 2 mountain bikes donated by East Bank Cyclery and Raleigh America, as well as a parade of prizes including items donation from Mavic, Louis Garneau, Camelpak, and a variety of other items donated in support of Dan’s recovery. Each participant will automatically be placed in the raffle drawing upon payment of their entry fee for either the race or Benefit. All raffle proceeds will be directly donated to the Dickerson Support Fund.

NOMAMBO greatly appreciates any support shown or donated to this worthy cause. NOMAMBO still needs volunteers and donations for this event. Should you be interested in supporting a great cause or need more information, please do not hesitate to contact me at nomambo@gmail.com.
